While not a staunch numbers man (the attitude that I won't believe it until you can show me a test with numeration), there are many aspects to sound which are difficult to measure, difficult to communicate about, and difficult to resolve. The scientific method is not only necessarily creating a test or obtaining the instrumentation to measure something, but also understanding the principles which can involve an aspect of audio. Once having a theoretical understanding, then the tweak or principle can then be applied and the quality of the results, good or bad, observed. This in itself can help prove or disprove the theory." <<<

This is a succinct comment by 'unclestu52' and I am at a loss to understand the reason why so many 'postings' have been relegated to the Isolation Ward. My definition of the word Isolation is 'to quarantine', 'to prevent cross contamination' !! What do people fear being contaminated with ?

In a reply to me 'unclestu' said "That in trying to 'mystify' a basic application of physics, I am actually doing audio a vast disservice."
It is actually the opposite which Peter and I are attempting. We are trying to put forward concepts (the result of our numerous experiments) to "explain" the mysteries !!!!!

Quote from unclestu "Once having a theoretical understanding, then the tweak or principle can then be applied and the quality of the results, good or bad, observed."
Very laudable sentiments, but if there isn't a readily understood or a readily available 'theoretical' understanding' then what ? Nothing ? No discussion until any concept can be actually PROVEN ?
'Unclestu' has obviously 'heard' numerous things having an effect on the sound. When many people have described similar experiences, they come up against a reaction from others such as "Oh, it's your active imagination at work." 'Unclestu' does not give that reaction, instead his reaction is along the lines of "If there was enough time and energy available to investigate all the observations, then there WOULD BE an explanation from within conventional electronic and acoustic theories. All that is needed is the time and energy to devote to such investigations. There is really no mysticism, it will, eventually, all be able to be explained by "a basic application of physics."
But, 'unclestu', "a basic application of readily known physics DOES NOT explain much of what is happening. THAT is the brick wall which audio and the understanding of what we are actually 'hearing' is stuck at !!

May Belt.
