That's how science works. And it works well. Thee are no special rights given to scientists of status and that's the way every scientist worth his or her salt want it to be. "Fringe ideas" are the kernels from whcih advances in science spring. But the fringe ideas have to endure the scientific method to become more than just a fringe idea. In science these ideas are not belittled when they are refered to as "fringe ideas" and "speculation."
