I have used it on various commercial pieces which typically have a fairly large aluminum knob. The equipment used included ARC, CJ, Counterpoint, Quicksilver, VTL, etc.
I bought about 3000 of the pieces and when I went to reorder 3M had completely sold out of the product. Apparently the material had been provided for some aerospace project which got cancelled and 3M did not know what to do with the sheets that they had. I believe Music Direct bought out all the remaining stock, and I obtained a bunch from them.
I do not know the composition of the rings, but they demonstrate an tremendous ability to stretch. They came in only one size, which fits a 12AX7 but can be stretched to encircle even power tubes like a KT88, although the heat really kills them on a power tube. I use them for dampening the magnet structures on my speakers (they fit on the tweeters) and for dampening of motors and record weights. If you can find them they are phenomenal for certain dampening purposes.
