And did you see the immediate responses to Bill Leebens posting of this subject in the General section ?
One response :-
>>> From the first two sentences which are generally incorrect, there are many errors in this report. The only sentence with which I can fully agree is "Scientists say that until Jackson and Heimburg can provide empirical data to support their theory, it will remain a fringe idea." These are men of scientific stature but most of what is reported is pure speculation." <<<
*************
Again with the "until they have empirical data......... It will remain a fringe idea." And "these are men of scientific stature..... But it is only speculation."
Such a simplistic a response to the article about Jackson and Heimburg - scientific people obviously struggling to find some answers to vexing questions !! Of course so many things start as 'speculation' but science would never have advanced without first 'observation', then 'speculation', then 'experimentation', then 'confirmation through further experimentation' - then 'acceptance' by many but still with some still clinging to the old beliefs !!
Another response :-
>>> "Both electricity and sound waves could be involved. That's the trouble with theories...they are necesasrily simplistic models that cannot possibly be totally accurate." <<<
************
Again, a simplistic comment. Yes, of course theories cannot be totally accurate !! But, how can one explore without theories or concepts to work with. What I always refer to as 'stepping stones' which allow one to explore without falling in the water - providing one does as W Scott Murray advised many years ago - "remember to put up a marker flag at the point where you started from so that you know where to get back to".
I don't know what, if anything, will come of those scientists investigations - but we surely need to know (and have people investigate) just what happens to information travelling along nerves !!
I would have thought they should at least be applauded for their attempt.

May Belt.
