By the way you say this, to agree excludes all businesses. I cannot think of anything that I buy that is not included, including the services of my doctor. I think in this technologically advanced world most depend on professionals ranging from produce providers to politicians making public policy. Mainly we don't experience any clear evidence that we are being wrong, but when we do we switch to some other professional. Frankly I do not believe a 30 second exposure to an amp and then 30 seconds to another and being asked if it is the same or different validly captures whether the second amp is better. This would be like taking two cars out for a 30 second road test.
In both cases a longer listen and a longer drive may convince that one amp or car is for us. We may be lured into one or the other by bells and whistles, by a smooth salesman, by our blind loyalty to one manufacturer, or by what we really like. I just bought a new scanner to do my old 35mm slides. Thanks to the internet I could compare specifications, read professional reviews, and read many consumer reports about what they liked or disliked about each scanner. I don't know how I would have set up a blind testing of various models and I probably would not have really trusted someone else doing such a test.
