The "rigid, blinkered approach" is your prerogitive obviously...

...but advance with such an approach will be terribly slow IMO.

I hear you on the perceived detail issue, this is a bear to deal with at times. The only reason I put up with it is my experience indicates that 'small' advances add up to something MUCH bigger over time and taken as a whole. Incredibly so. Over the last two years my audio dollars, excepting a tuner purchase, have gone nearly exclusively towards tweaks by Machina Dynamica, Xtreme A/V, and Herbie's Audio Lab. It has been VERY apparent that these products have improved system performance to an EXTRAORDINARY level. Nothing short of miraculous to a technological trogdolyte such as myself.
