The 747sp is not a pre-amp. It's a compressor/equalizer. Did you mean the 737?
I think if you had this pre-amp you would love the sound, no doubt about it. On the other hand you are paying a lot for things you don't need for home playback . .like top of the line mic inputs, opto-compressor, etc. In my opinion, if you spent equivalent bucks on something high end and transparent . .like a Pass Labs X1, for example . . you would be further ahead sonically.
If you wanted EQ you might look into adding a studio EQ . .like maybe a Great River or a Manley . . that might be pretty cool.
