From what you've said, they are either morons or asses, but they're NOT consultants. Dump them, and go find a real consultant. (I listed several in an earlier post.)

Time to review:

You want acoustical treatment first. That makes some sense.

They won't refer you to "their" acoustician. That's bullsh*t. What are their acoustician's credentials? You ought to be talking with him immediately.

Lastly, you can't design a system until: 1. You know what it has to do; and 2. The acoustical environment it must work in.

As I've said for years: "There's a 'consultant' under every rock."
