Typical low end (less than $200)'power conditioners' are nothing more than $15 power strips with three $0.20 caps and three $0.50 MOVs, as opposed to a power strip with 'surge and noise' filtering that only has one cap and one MOV. Get the power strip, one with a switch. If you get pops at turn-on then you'll have to follow the start-up sequence listed above.
