Well, I'm not so sure that it's the choice of amplification that's responsible for the flat response, but I'll grant you that active monitors in general provide greater dynamics, transient response, and deeper, more controlled bass.Actually, I suspect that the flat response is due more to the designer's choice to make it flat (in the near field). In the far field, it's probably an exponentially more difficult task due to the fact that the designer has NO idea about your room dimensions, degree of reflectivity, and distance away from the speakers.
