Active studio monitors, while accurate and usually considerably more dynamic than their passive counterparts are likely gonna give you a bit of ear fatigue if you can't control the room to a certain degree.

Don't forget, these are NEAR field monitors, and meant to be listened to from 3-5 ft away max. The reason for this is because their flat response is not affected by room reflections until waaay after the direct sound reaches your ear...relatively speaking, that is.

Once you combine TRUE (every manufacturer claims their speakers are flat) flat response monitors with room reflections, they usually come off as sounding a bit harsh or bright...especially if you prefer to listen at moderate to loud levels. If you listen at low to moderate levels, it might be ok, even wonderful, but ya better watch out if don't have carpeting, wall treatments, and the like.

As for me, once I went active, ain't no goin' back!
