Thanks for answering my question and explaining what is going on. I don't have a sleeve for the machine. There is no knob that can be turned to correct the speed. I will see if the sleeve that "is" on the machine comes off. I did try to find some answers on the AKAI
website, but all I could find was new products and no way to email them. I will try once more. You have helped me understand
what is going on and I am "much appreciative". It was driving me crazy. If I get the puzzle solved I will come back and post here. I think there is another machine at our cottage in Pa, and when we go there this summer, I will try the tapes on it if I can't get "this" machine to work. (I don't know what brand it is, as it was left to my sister and we just have it stored) (these tapes have good music on them and I hate to have them wasted if they disintegrate.)
