Thank you for your very informative reply, your memory and knowledge is impeccable. Yes the manual claims a dynamic range of 110db, and a sampling rate of 644Khz and a bit rate of 644Kb/sec.
Your correct, in the the Technical background notes by Robert Adams state that the 700 uses Companded Predictive Delta Modulation.

I agree with you in that there would be to many conversions in the chain, I was concerned with this as well. Can you or anyone suggest a media format that would work, other than the VCR/VTR tape media? Is there a burner/format that would do the job of recording the video signal without the compression/conversion problem?

As I mentioned in the orginal post, VHS/tape in not a good archiving media, I'm just thinking there may be a way to place the signal on to disc, I don't know.

Anyone else is welcome to chime in on this please.
