but I'd be posting over at Gearslutz.com as well. There are some hard-core studio engineers there, too.

Frankly, if it were mine, I'd be padding down the Dolby unit without attempting to reconfigure it the way you're proposing. I _might_ consider it if I had all the engineering docs so that I could evaluate what I was doing with it. Sometimes the, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach works pretty well.

I _would_ be looking at swapping out the electrolytic caps where appropriate and making darn sure the power supply is operating up to spec as part of the restoration process.
