Need help soldering 1/4" phono plug

Pro studio recording equipment and music production/industry.

I've built lots of RCA and XLR cables but this is my first time with these plugs.

Those little holes, what are they for? Does anyone use 26ga. wire?

The wire I'll use is 16 ga.

Just solder the wire to the hot and neutral metal parts like a solder pad?
