I just ended up using the original cables I was using before.

RCA -> XLR in and XLR -> RCA out.

Turns out I had the input and output gain switches reversed causing the signal to be just too low.

I gotta start getting more sleep. :o)

As far as slammin 1/4" unbalanced into 1/4" TRS??? I guess. Nowadays I try to get manuals from the internet and know "for sure". I thought that sometimes amps had 1/4" unbalanced and XLR balanced... maybe I'm wrong here. Time to pull out some old manuals for some of my old prosound gear...

Normally I run either unbalanced / RCA all the way, or XLR balanced all the way. I only mix when I'm experimenting with stuff and mixing prosound and consumer gear.
