Yamaha Q2031 Connection problems... Help?

Hey gang:

I have a Yamaha Q2031 31band stero EQ that my friend wants to try in his home rig. THe pin assignments for the XLRs seems to be the normal pin 2 = signal+.

I tried unbalanced to balanced input cables and balanced to unbalanced output cables. Nada. No sound. I know this unit works because I used it (full balanced mode) a couple of months ago and it worked fine. The adapter cables simply connect XLR pins 1 and 3 to RCA -, and RCA + goes to pin 2. (basic adapter cables).

Has anyone ever used a Yamaha EQ in unbalanced mode before?

It DOES have 1/4" jacks, but these are just balanced TRS (not unbalanced).

Any input is appreciated.
