Why would you need identifications on the cable?
On xlrs pin 1 is ground/shield and as long as pin 2 of one end is connected to pin 2 on the other end I don't see what difference it makes.
That said it might depend on the kit the cable is connecting. All my gear is pin 2 hot with the exception of my BSS crossovers which left the factory wired pin 3 hot. During their last service I just had them converted to pin 2 hot. This way everything is the same and I don't have to think about it anymore. I'd never wired them in when they were pin3 hot, I guess there are two possibilities of what might happen: Either no audible difference or no signal at all.
Other then those BSSs I've never consciously seen anything other then pin2 hot when it comes to xlrs.
