I agree totally, the amp should add nothing. Unfortunatly, no amp is truly a straight wire with gain, but some are closer than others. I certainly would not want to use an amp that was designed otherwise. That said, using my Conrad-Johnson preamp with the Forte', Belles, or Threshold created a wonderful soundstage. Replacing the amp with a 200 wpc Pioneer power amp totally collasped(sp) the soundstage. With the QSC amp (it was a MX1500a if I recall) the soundstage got smaller, but was still there. One thing to remember, the Forte' and the Threshold are class A designs, with the Belles being class A up to about 20 wpc. The "pro amps" are not.
