pickup or mic...

The big question is are you recording or amplifying?

Recording, the only way to go is mic. Live however, you often have to settle for a pickup begause of the acoustic gain issues...

Pickups -be they piezo/ceramic (including contact pickups) or magnetic always sound significantly worse. No solo acoustic guitarist EVER records a solo guitar project using a pickup.

I think that about sums it up for me!

Microphone wise, how much is your budget, and what type of equipment are you going to plug it in to? -No point getting a phantom-powered condensor if you don't have a preamp that can drive it with phantom power...
