There was a side post over at High Efficiency Speakers about using a sound card for doing an active crossover. Upon following up on this line I found a wealth of info.

So my question here is what have users found works well in a PC for doing signal processing like crossovers, EQ, signal routing and mixing, etc.

My main interests are to keep it cost effective - I can always go buy Behringer equipment to do this, but the more things that I want to do the more cost effective the PC looks. It would also be great if I could run a DVD decoder running FFDShow at the same time. FFDSow is a CPU hog.

Any suggestions on approaches to take?

Seems like this stuff has gotten quite advanced. Perhaps its time to take a deeper look.
