I would NOT compress files on a drive used to store music files. It's not a matter of affecting quality. The type of music file format (for instance flac) that you are using is proabably already compressed. Trying to compress it again my actually cause it to use more disk space. Setting your computer to compress files on a drive will also slow it down.
