I went to the site before posting.

It isn't difficult to add dither and noise shaping to take 24 bit hi-res and send it to a 16 bit DAC. Not much processing required, only a few dozen instructions per sample. It could easily be done in a dedicated driver. Most of the fancy dither algorithms, such as iZotope Mbit, are attempting to move the noise around at 44.1 kHz. This is a marginal effort, as there is little room to spare as all of the noise has to go below 22 kHz. This requires various psychoacoustic "tricks" which amount to putting 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag. But where there are lots of extra bits due to a much higher sample rate it's pretty easy and there is no need for high order noise shaping to get complex noise distributions.
