Yes they know about it, I've talked with several developers about the issue, but its not very high on the priority list. I'm fairly doubtful that USB DAC capability will be out of box when they first get into customers hands. But with the firmware upgrades its seamless t offer it later.
By then I MIGHT have an applet ready that lets you add a USB DAC so you don't have to SSH in and modify a file. This is actually fairly easy because you don't have to know the name of the USB DAC, you let the user figure out which one is it.
