I have a very fast SP2 on boot and on running programmes. I am thinking of not installing ANY security updates, antivirus, or whatever and just using my ATOM 330 with only 2.2 GB on the boot disk. Diabling internet access also allows me to disable a host of Services. (probably get down to 10 or less).
Good for you fred. Finally heading down the right path!
I only run sp3 on the non audio pc, and IIRC the boot drive can be even smaller once you do the cmp os tweaks and yes less than 10 is easy. IIRC I think I had like 7 or 8 going on the audio rig.
