with hw0,0 you can be guaranteed nothing will be resampled because it has to be the exact bit length (16 or 24 I think?). Plug will convert to whatever the current situation demands. So if your dac is a 16 bit usb dac the hw should work fine because it shouldn't change (unless your soundcard, such as Creative, only supports 48khz). I believe hw is the best scenario, but in most cases for high def audio I think plug is necessary?
