The comment "SRC upsampling is excluded..." refers to 128bit processing and NOT as in total exclusion. Likewise FLAC decoding gains limited benefit from 128 bit processing. SRC & FLAC require changes to its source code for explicit 128 bit processing. I say explicit because FLAC and a small part in SRC benefits from automatic 128 bit translations (vectorised loops) done by the compiler (which translates source code to low-level machine instructions your E7200 understands). cPlay 2.0b10 uses explicit 128 bit instructions (SSE2) in all critical areas to fully exploit these highly advanced CPUs. By this I mean calculations are vectorised (called SIMD) and RAM read & writes are more efficient (which includes streaming). I initially expected to release this in the new year but b9 set the platform for SSE2 early! Don't be fooled by the low cost of these computer parts (CPU, mobo chipset and RAM) as they are in fact extreme high-end audio technologies.
So if you have selected -145db SNR and output is 192k, cPlay will upsample using the same SRC converter when input is not 192k.
I didn't expect a large improvement in SQ given the already excellent performance. It certainly surprised me! In my setup, HF resolution and additional detail is just remarkable. Mids gain handsomely (tube-like sweetness & emotion) and vocals are impressive! Every aspect in performance (transients, bass, imaging, low-level detail...) improves.
