It does work

Dear Bernd,

I was able to do "the mod" (wish all were so simple) this afternoon and I do hear an improvement in most areas.

Starting my machine after the adjustment was a little strange.

Since I realize that my CPU does not seem to run at the low voltages (I figure it has to be this CPU since the e5200 I was trying out would go VERY low) I set the voltage to 0.975 before making the adjustment. Even so on turn the machine would get to the WINDOWS screen and then the screen went black, which is weird since my default screen color is white.

I turned it off and this time went into BIOS. BIOS had reset a number of settings, notably CPU speed (did change voltage) and memory had reset to AUTO.

I left all alone, closed BIOS and let it proceed to WINDOWS, and this time, into cMP. Relief.

I did notice that with the memory set to AUTO, according to CPUZ my CAS readings were higher than previously (before adjusting voltage, I am assuming since I had not checked this since initial installation). After hundreds of hours of burn in is it possible for the memory to "change". I am at a loss for the proper vernacular.

I do notice, and I do not think this has anything to do with the voltage adjustment, that when a track is SELECTED versus being played in order automatically, that about ten seconds into the track there is some kind of glitch sound. If one starts the track over again, it occurs (I think) in the same spot. But, again, seemingly in the same "spot" with any track so selected. I wonder if I need to re-install cPLAY or cMP, or both?

Turned it off, again, reset BIOS to cics's specifications and all went fine.

I do not think I am dreaming when I ascribe an additional sense of spaciousness. Vocals, which I am most sensitive to (not that this makes me unique in any way, but I listen to songs more than orchestral music) have clearer textures and the tonal complexity is revealed with ease.

For those with this amazing little device this is a way to make this unassuming thing even better. Who could believe it to look at it?

Seems the rebate offer is gone (at least it is at NEWEGG). Still pretty cheap for the performance.

Thanks Bernd for your inquisitive nature and then telling us what you found. Now to try the battery power with the DC-DC converters!

Bye,

Rick McInnis
