Analog Guy: Rechecking EMUs website, I do believe it's CAT6. The 1616M records very well using the AKM 5394 ADCs, I liked it better the RME 800. But the playback on the RME sounds better.

This is using the SPDIF connection by a very high quality SPDIF cable a tubed DAC. This by passes the cheap opamps and the switching power supply for the most part on both units. The RME quality on the playback side is better, using a Firewire 800 connection between the external unit and the PC.It's also quite a bit more expense.

I would love the try the Apogee Rosetta for recording, I have heard it is very good.
