I use a Korg MR-1000 for recording. There's nothing easier to use that I'm aware of. I have an Apogee Duet for play back, but don't use it for recording because the Korg is easier to use and has much better meters than the Duet or any software I have (I've used Soundtrack). The peak reading meters on the Korg have many more divisions for greater accuracy and they can be set to hold peaks indefinitely, for 10 seconds, 4 seconds, etc.
After recording I dump to the computer for breaking up tracks with the included Audio Gate software. The Korg is small enough that you could take it to the station if desired. It has a 40 gig hard drive which will store 50-60 LPs at 16/44 resolution.
The Korg will record and play in DSD (2.8 and 5.6MHz) and in PCM (44.1-192kHz WAV).
