You have raised a false dichotomy. At present, I have a collection of hundreds of CDs and thousands of LPs. I have a few dozen Hi-res recordings. I listen to the music that I want when I want it. If there is a performance that interests me I purchase it in the highest available quality. Sometimes it is hi-res. Sometimes it is RBCD. Sometimes it is a hi-res transcription of a tape or even 78 RPM records.

I don't listen to what I call dreck. What you might call it is another matter which doesn't concern me in the least. Were it to be debated it would be a subject for a different forum, in any event.
