Actually, it can be done using an Airport network through a software solution called Airfoil. I have not tried it but there's a free trial download and even for the full price of $25 its got to be worth an experiment

I am very happy with the Airport network (Time Capsule base station plus four Airport Express units) running in my house doing exactly what you describe, but I'm happy using iTunes since I only use it for my music library and internet radio. Plus there is the added bonus of automated backup, printer sharing, and internet for all the devices in the house.
