Or, if you troll computer hardware graveyards, you may find some not-so-little APC UPSes that can be brought back to life with one or two fresh batteries. Don't buy the replacements from APC; a local electrical/electronic parts supplier should have some compatible ones for a better price.

UPSes do a little filtering and surge suppression as well, which is helpful. Now, if you're lucky you may find some better-quality UPSes that produce true sine waves, and run the inverter full-time, in which case they really are true power conditioners, and might be suitable for your audio gear as well.
