What's the deal with the PCI bus?

J, here is a quote from cics art of building PC transports:

USB drives are not good as disk traffic clutters PCI bus.
All soundcards (USB, PCI or Ethernet) operate of
motherboard’s generic PCI bus hence avoid bus sharing

Seems to make sense.
