I just had to replace my 1.5 year old 20 meter opticis cable also. I replaced it with a new Opticis cable, but I also have an Icron USB Ranger (going in a different direction to another stereo system) that converts usb to Cat-5 and then back again at the destination. The Icron is a more expensive solution at about $300.00, but it's totally reliable.
