Any thought on a Cat 5 USB extender

My Opticus fiber optic USB extender recently went belly up. I was about to replace it when a fellow at USB Stuff mentioned they had a CAT 5 extender (converts USB to Cat 5 and then back to USB again, like the Opticus with fiber) for about $25 versus $190 for the Opticus.

Since I can run my laptop off its battery, can anyone think of a downside to using the Cat 5 extender. My laptop is by the couch, requiring about a 25' cable.
