my network engineer son is putting together a music server for me. i plan on using the Playback Designs MPS-5 as my DAC. the Playback Designs is able to accept a high rez (176/24, 192/24, 386/32) signal thru the AES/EBU XLR input and process it without jitter.

i've been told that even though there are sound cards that will output a hi-rez PCM data stream; most/all of them 'process' that data stream to some degree so it is not the pure original signal off the hard drive. i am clueless on this stuff so please be gentle; i hope i have asked this question properly.

i am specifically looking for a sound card which will do a bit-for-bit data in and data out with 176/24 and 192/24.

assuming that there are sound cards that can do this; i would appreciate some sort of reference to info that would verify this capability.

in addition to the AES/EBU XLR input, there are also S/PDIF RCA, USB, Toslink and BNC digital data inputs.

thanks in advance for any help.
