Gang,
First Herman... I brought the first pair of Mathias & Holger's horns into the US and set them up in Jonathan Valin's place. I have owned and setup several 100's of these over the years.
Gang they are truely microsopes to change in your systems. If you have ever struggled with getting horns to work correctly you know what I mean.
I think on the MAC side if either goes through CoreAudio and correcly does the basics then it should sound the same.
You know toslink really get's a bad rap for jitter but if you look at the latest BelCanto and Benchmarks specs they are really lower than the other interfaces. So maybe when we talk about jitter we specify something a little than general. I have tested the older Macbook toslink out and it was pretty bad jitter wise. The newer units use a different controller than the Sigmatel devices. On my PowerMac the optical is actually very good but I think limited to 24/48k.
Herman... one thing about triamping as I did a study on this and know the horns really well is that you have to use the same amps between 100-10khz.
The DUO midbass does go down pretty low like 150hz, but one of the problems with the DUO midbass is it does not go up high enough (i think) to match the tweeter. Or I guess you can say the tweeter does not go down far enough. This is why I prefered the UNO to the DUO or I gues the Trio's which are great. Anyways I have people ask me for triamp amps like 300B for bass, 2A3 for mid and 45 for tweeter. I'm like what........
Look the difference in sound between the amplifiers is greater and an passive xover. The amps need to be identical in that region or else the horns will never blend.
