Comparing wav rips from dbpoweramp and eac for optimum sound quality – used ultra secure mode in dbpoweramp, beginner’s mode in eac (which is as good as eac advanced mode anyway), both are using AccurateRip, both have C2 error checking, both detected the same offset in my CD/DVD drive. I ripped Alison Krauss “Now That I’ve Found You – a Collection” and Dvorak “Sym No.9 & Slavonic Dances” for contrast.
I expected the sound to be the same, but in fact found a definite preference for eac – it was fuller and smoother, db was brighter and a tad “thinner”. You can put the value judgement down to taste if you want, it was an easy choice for me.
Dbpoweramp does make folders for you, which eac does not, but db does not have the facility for making cuesheets, and eac does, although db is promising to have that out very soon. Ease of use is where db excels – everything is pretty much on the same page after you have done your settings.
I didn’t experiment with mp3, flac, or any dsp features because I’m really only interested in wav at the moment – certainly db has a much wider range of these features than eac.
