I just got a chance to play the HRx disc from RR, Crown Imperial, and I am very impressed. Delicate highs, pure and sweet mids, powerful lows, very dynamic, and great air and space were the immediate adjectives that came to my mind. I was tempted to post this under Hi-Rez (it’s 24-bit, 176.4 kHz music), DVD-A (it’s a DVD-R data disc), or Digital (for general interest), but the high res WAV files should be of interest to everyone in the Computer Forum. I sorry I did not buy all three of the RR releases at once to save $15, but I wanted to be sure everything worked well since I generally use iTunes on my Macbook Pro to play AIFF files. This time I used Cog on my Mac to play the WAV files, which is what I usually use to play the Studio Master FLAC files I downloaded from Linn Records. I wish I had FIOS since high res digital downloads from Linn take a long time via my DSL internet connection. The HRx disc saves hours for me and provides a physical backup and liner notes. Differences between audiophile digital equipment pale in comparison; the real stuff is in the recording and RR rises to the top once again. The digital future has never looked better and this is one disc that I highly recommend to everyone in PC Audio.
