I heard a TacT 2.2 XP in a home environment with an Oppo DVD player as transport, Linkwitz Orion loudspeakers, and the low-cost power amps that Linkwitz recommends. Replacing the TacT with a Benchmark DAC dramatically improved the clarity. My conclusion was that the TacT has an inferior DAC, possibly due to clock jitter. Therefore, I'd recommend the TacT only if used with digital inputs and outputs. Even then, there's a possibility of degradation with Redbook CD sources because the TacT uses asynchronous sample rate conversion to convert the digital input to 192 KHz.
