When Zonbu launched they were selling their units for cheap but required a monthly subscription ($15/mo?). I am seeing something on the site now that might imply that they have a subscription free version now. They use a music player called Banshee, which is free Linux opensource product that emulates iTunes. I have never heard Banshee, and don't know what it sounds like.
You can download their OS as an ISO file, which most disc burning programs will burn as a DVD. This is a self-contained OS that you can run by putting in your DVD drive and booting from. It doesn't install anything on your system but runs directly from the disc. So you can try out their system at home. Nice idea. It's kind of like Ubuntu.
Who knows how this stuff sounds? The mini may not have a digital audio out, and you cannot use the USB on a Linux machine to connect to most USB Dacs unless the Dac manufacturer has a linux driver. So you are limited to analog out, which is probably not so great!
