After a LOT of work I am about to finish ripping my collection to my hdds. Now my attention is increasingly focused on improving and tweaking my server to sound its best. So far with about $100 spent the bechmark USB is substantially better sounding:
1. Cryoparts fuses ($8 each)
2. Cyberpower Hub ($18 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817804001)
3. ILJ PC (2/$29 at time of purchase)
4. Mapleshade Isoblocks (4/$24)
1. This is my first experience with upgraded fuses. Thought I would try these to get my feet wet. This might make the biggest improvement of anything here listed.
2. The Cyber power seems to clean up the sound quite a bit. (you are correct if at this point you are seeing a streak of my cheapskate side. ha ha) Still have not tried to opticis. This might be an alternative. Uses 4 AAA batteries to supply the usb ports.
3. At first the Benchmark was plugged into the APC H15. The sound was recessed, distant and I was not happy. Tried some other pcs and will try others. This is the best so far plugged into the wall.
4. Have not experimented here. Vibration control is always important.
Hope this helps someone out there. (system is listed under inmate systems) Checked out some Eva Cassidy and Phillippe Saisse this morning. All smiles here.
