All it does is share its files with PCs on the network. No expandability (other than to add more drives), no running applications.
The HP is about 100 times as powerful in terms of CPU power. It's expandable just by adding more hard drives, it has the ability to do network backups of PCs on your network. If you want to run other server applications such as SqueezeCenter for a Logitech Squeezebox, then it can easily handle it.
What you need to do is research Windows Home Server to see whether the software offers anything that you'd like.
