The Mac Mini is a terrific way to go for the easiest way to listen to your music collection from your listening position. First, Apple provides an application called FrontRow which allows you to manage your multimedia applications (Music, DVD, Videos, etc.) via the remote control supplied with the Mac Mini. It's a very simple remote (no screen). I use mine from my listening position about 15 feet away from my 20" LCD monitor (connected to the Mac Mini) and have no trouble seeing the playlists, song titles, etc.
I've tried other products such as Sailing Remote using a PDA and although they are interesting as they provide playlists, song titles at your fingertips, you can't do some basic functions such as booting and ripping music. So you'll need a keyboard and monitor connected to the Mac Mini so I ditched the Sailing Remote option and just use the Mac supplied remote which is perfect.
Hope this helps.
