"Can I upsample my lossless files permanently to 48kHz without adversely affecting quality?"

I don't like asynchronous conversions personally, but there are others who can tolerate it. A lot of disagreement over its (alleged) ills. I think you should listen, and compare 48kHz-converted to "bit perfect." Your own perception should determine if the conversion is OK for you.
