Computer Audio Asylum

A (hopefully) simple question for Gordon Rankin:

I am getting a demo Brick from Matt at Pitch Perfect Audio to try out. Should get here today but I have a B52s concert to go to tonight (no complaints there!).

Anyway, I want to give this a fair demo. My PC laptop has XP. Should I download J. River, get the ASIO driver to bypass the KMIXER, and rip wavs using the J. River? Anything else to optimize for a trial, using XP? I presume running the laptop off battery would be best. I do have iTunes on the computer but it sounds like J. River may be preferred.

Any other words of wisdom, for a straightforward trial? I can get esoteric later if it sounds promising and I buy the Brick.

Thanks, Steve
