If so what method do they employ to get optimal results?

If not, then is USB worse than optical or AES/EBU?

Either way, as with everything in Audio YMMV with everything, so person A says it sucks person B says its the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Bottom line use what works best in your system and tweak it to get optimal results.
