Guess we'll have to disagree. You blamed the problem on lack of magic headers or cable looms.
Having started with personal computers in the late '70s I've dealt with a lot of issues and fixed a lot of computers over the years. It is important to at least check those "PC" things before one ventures into the land of audio magic.
My main system is not USB audio based but I've used it and never had a problem like the one you've experienced. However, I've seen more than one PC where one set of USB ports was running at 1.1 and another at 2.0, or did not use the same drivers.
While I'm glad one of your ports works well for you, I'd imagine the other one would too if one did the legwork to run it down. Maybe it isn't worth it to you to do that. That doesn't mean others wouldn't benefit from some suggestions involving a lowly "PC type answer."
