I need some help with an Airport Express and using Windows... Here is the back story. Im a Mac user with a Windows using girlfriend .......i know.....but please no jokes or predictions on our future! So i convinced her that she should get an Airport Express so she could play the music on her computer thru her stereo. To make a long story short..... it never really worked with Windows. The Mac could connect no problem and maintain connection thru rebooting/ sleep cycles ect. The Windows comp (both laptops by the way) would connect with everything working ok then out of the blue it would stop working and loose the ip address. We would to go thru the wireless set up each time it failed and sometimes it would recognizing the airport and work for a few minuets only to loose the ip again when the comp sleeps or reboots or i sneeze..... In the end after refusing to find the ip i removed the AE from the system and the Windows comp still refused to connect to the original router..... After hours of online help on various fronts she did a system reinstall and that fixed it. The Mac works flawlessly threw all the switching/rebooting and resetting the AE ect.
Is this a common problem? Is it posable to get AE to work smoothly and for more than a day with Windows? What are the critical settings to make it work?.... is there some little box that needs to be checked hidden somewhere in some file only known to super geeks that you MUST check to make it right?.... we both really want it to work but if this is any hint of what it takes to run AE with Windows she will pawn it off on me......................... but i want a Squeezebox!
Any help is most appreciated and could possibly save out relationship.... ; ' )
Posable pertinent info.......
She is running Windows XP service pack 2
Windows XP firewall is OFF
Windows live onecare is running
Main router is a Netgear wpn824 v2
The AE is a new one ... 801.11n
